about rogueclown

about me

Even though I am more often referred to online as rogueclown, my real name is nicolle neulist.

I am interested in making a career in information security, but I also understand that merely knowing how to type a few commands does not a competent security professional make. A deeper understanding of how computer systems work, as well as of how people interact with computer systems, is vital. I spend my time studying computer networking, systems administration, as well as information security, with the goal of gaining enough knowledge, training, and experience to excel in the field.

I am a founding member of Pumping Station: One, the hackerspace in Chicago. In the time since late fall 2008, when the space was in its forming stages, the community that has blossomed around it has become the center of my life. It is a community of the most intellectually curious and creative people in Chicago, and I am fortunate to share my time, energy, and knowledge with it.

I am a licensed attorney in the state of Illinois. I graduated from Washington University School of Law in St. Louis, Missouri in the spring of 2008, and passed the Illinois bar that summer. I worked at a law firm in Chicago for seven months after graduation, but eventually realized that my passions existed with computers and with the hacker community. However, I continue as Pumping Station: One's attorney, and I am dedicated to staying up-to-date on the legal concerns of the hackerspaces community.
